Simple training exercise to improve balance

British Eventing’s Young Rider Programme and team sponsor Saracen Horse Feeds shares an exercise for you to try at home.

Get ready for the season ahead with some training ideas from Saracen rider Connie Copestake. Her first exercise is a simple but effective jumping exercise for improving balance, control and rhythm in your horse’s canter.

On a 20m circle, place four fences on each point and aim to get an equal number of even strides in between each fence.

Once you have managed to do it well on each rein, challenge yourself and try doing a figure of eight on two circles, but make sure you keep the same balance and rhythm, and you change direction over the middle element!
